Cindy and Dutch Don Hollinger
meet again! One day as I was strolling through Dam Square eating a cotton
candy in my Cinderella ball gown, with Tiki, a golden limousine pulled up in
front of the Royal Palace and someone familiar got out. It was my old
friend Dutch Don Hollinger, who had given me directions the first day I found my
way around Amsterdam! He turned out to be the royal prince who lives at
the Palace! He insisted on having us to dinner in the Palace, and Tiki was
very naughty and chased the King and Queen around the table. |
Cindy visits the Oude Kerk! In
Amsterdam there is a very old church, called The Oude Kerk, which is like a zillion years
old. It was built in 1260 and is the oldest monument in
Amsterdam, and it has the tomb of Rembrandt's wife in it along with
zillions of others, you walk on their names on stones all over the
floor--or, if you're like me, you tiptoe all around them trying not
to step on anyone. It is super cold and huge and a little spooky inside. Over
in Dam Square you have the Nieuwe Kerk, the new church, but I hate
new things like that, it's only 600 years old. |
Cindy and Joey visit the sampler
shop! I love stitchery, I've loved embroidery since I was a
little girl and in my enthusiasm used to accidentally stitch pictures to my pants leg
or the carpet. I spent many happy hours as a teenager
stitching with my mother who taught me and also loved to stitch and
made many beautiful colorful crewel embroidery pictures of flowers
and birds for our home, and I still love doing stitchery today
because it makes me feel close to my mom. So, I was
thrilled to find a little shop in the 9 Streets shopping area of
Amsterdam, which is nine streets full of interesting and unusual
little shops, that was simply a gallery style shop full of very old and
amazing samplers stitched by girls and young ladies hundreds of
years ago. Wow, it was a wonderful shop! |
Cindy and Joey get
made into wax! We had a lot of fun visiting the Madame
Tussaud's Wax Museum in Dam Square with our friends Marc and Emma
and Jake and Daisy. It was amazing to see how short or tall
all the celebrities really are. They have a really scary
walking tour section where someone really disgraced herself
screaming every time someone jumped out at her, but I'm not sure who
it was, I was running out screaming too fast! |
Cindy and Joey dine
at La Piazza! Our favorite little place to eat in Dam Square
is La Piazza, a cute little Italian eatery, where we enjoyed
mountains of spaghetti and meatballs and pepperoni pizza and orange
soda. The staff there are lots of fun and so nice, I wish I
could pop in there for dinner again right this minute! My
favorite member of the staff is the orange cat who owns the place,
he's a boy but the staff insist he is named Sophia Loren! |
